Fylkesvei

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A Fylkesvei , also Fylkesveg (Norwegian: provincial road ) is a main road (of the provinces) in Norway and roughly comparable to the German state road . Norwegian roads are classified by the Norwegian Road Transport Authority ( Statens vegvesen ). The division of the streets into Riksveier , Fylkesveier and Bygdeveier was made in 1931.

Since an administrative reform in 2010, over 60% of the routes are in municipal hands, i. i.e. they are Fylkesveier.

numbering

Fylkesveier were renumbered within each province so that there were different Fylkesveier with the same number in Norway. Exceptions were Oslo and Moskene Kommune, where there are no Fylkesveier. In 2019 a new numbering of the streets was decided. Four-digit street numbers were introduced so that each street got a unique number. Since most of the regional roads were not signposted anyway, most Norwegians did not notice the change immediately.

The Fylkesveier are divided into 2 categories:

Primary fylkesveier

All Riksveier that became Fylkesvier on January 1st, 2010 are now primary Fylkesveier. They kept the street numbers they had before. They are marked with black numbers on a white background.

Secondary fylkesveier

These were already Fylkesveier before the reform and, with a few exceptions, are not signposted. Some reclassified Riksveier had the same number as already existing Fylkesveier in the county. To avoid a conflict, the secondary Fylkesveier got new numbers. The secondary Fylkesveier in Akershus , which go through several municipalities, were given new numbers at the municipal boundaries.
