Road sign

A Riksvei (Norwegian: Reichsstraße ) is a main road (of the Reich) in Norway and roughly comparable to the German federal highway . Statens vegvesen , subordinate to the Norwegian Ministry of Transport, is responsible for planning, maintaining and expanding a Riksvei .

The division of the streets into Riksvei, Fylkesvei and Kommunal vei was made in 1931. Since an administrative reform in 2010, more than 60% of the roads are in regional hands, i. i.e., they are Fylkesveier; there are only 19 Riksveier left. The Fylke were awarded 6.9 billion crowns for the new tasks.
