Hedmark was a province ( Fylke ) in Norway . It had a total area of 27,398 km² (land area 26,086 km²) and bordered the provinces of Akershus , Oppland and Trøndelag as well as neighboring Sweden to the east .
Before the reform of 1919, the province was called Hedemarkens amt and was divided into the bailiwicks Hedemarken, Nordre Østerdalen, Søndre Østerdalen, Solør and Vinger og Odalen .
On January 1, 2020, Hedmark merged with Oppland to form the new Fylke Innlandet . The basis for the merger was a resolution of the Storting on June 8, 2017, which provided for a reduction to eleven areas as part of a regional reform .
Hedmark belonged to the Norwegian Østlandet and was more agricultural. In addition to agriculture , forestry was an important economic factor. The largest lake in Norway, Lake Mjøsa , bordered the province. To the south was the Eida Forest .
Administrative division
Hedmark was divided into four regions and 22 parishes .
