Østerdalen is a landscape in Østlandet in Norway . It is a valley in the province of Innlandet that stretches along the Glomma River from Røros to Elverum . South of Elverum, the valley continues through Glåmdalen. The largest side valleys are Rendal, Folldal and Atndal. It is the largest valley in southern Norway.

The Østerdalen region includes the municipalities of Alvdal , Åmot , Elverum , Engerdal , Folldal , Os , Rendalen , Stor-Elvdal , Trysil and Tynset . The valley is heavily forested with pines and is one of the most heavily forested areas in Norway. Reindeer lichen is most common here .
