The municipality Trysil is located in the east of the province ( Fylke ) Innlandet in southeast Norway . Until 1906 the name "Tryssil" was written.
geography
Trysil borders the municipalities of Engerdal and Rendalen in the north, Åmot in the west and Elverum and Våler in the south-west . The eastern and southern municipal borders are also the state border with Sweden . The main town of the municipality is Innbygda, which is often referred to as Trysil.
history
The world's first official ski race was held in Trysil in 1855. The Trysilgutten winter sports club , founded in 1861, is the oldest ski club in the world.
The village of Nybergsund, which belongs to Trysil Municipality, was bombed by the German Air Force on April 11, 1940 when King Håkon VII and Crown Prince Olav were staying there.
economy
Agriculture and forestry as well as the wood processing industry are the most important economic sectors in the municipality. Wood was still rafted on the Trysilelva until the early 1990s . Since the area around Trysil offers excellent winter sports conditions, tourism has increasingly developed into an important economic factor. In winter, the area offers 66 slopes and 31 lifts, making it Norway's largest ski area. Trysil is also the municipality with the highest elk population in Norway.
