Grue is a Norwegian municipality in the southeast of the Fylke Innlandet with 4612 inhabitants (as of February 27, 2020). The seat of the administration is in Kirkenær . The municipality is named after the old Grue farm. The name goes back to the old Norse word grof (a) , which means something like "pit, sink".
The coat of arms was approved in 1992 and was designed by Harald Hallstensen. In the colors green and silver, the cut of the coat of arms is reminiscent of wolf teeth and the flames that destroyed the old church of Grue in 1822 (see section history).
geography
The municipality of Grue is located in the southeast of the Fylke Innlandet. The municipality borders on Åsnes to the north, Nord-Odal and Sør-Odal to the west, and Kongsvinger to the south . The eastern areas of the municipality border on Sweden and the large forest area of Finnskogen . The longest river in Norway, the Glomma , flows through the municipality, which is characterized by forestry and agriculture. The largest lake in the municipality is the fish-rich Røgden with 14.77 km².
history
Between the end of the 16th and the end of the 17th century, Finns from the Rautalampi area settled in Grue . Their descendants are known as forest fins , who today enjoy the status of a recognized minority in Norway.
One of the most devastating church fires in Norway occurred in the community. On May 26, 1822, the first day of Pentecost, fire broke out in the stave church during the service. Because the doors only opened inwards and a mass panic broke out, at least 113 people were burned in the wooden sacred building. Pastor Iver Hesselberg escaped the disaster by jumping out of the window.
