Løten is a Norwegian municipality in the Fylke Innlandet . It borders Hamar to the west, Åmot to the north, Elverum to the east, Våler to the southeast and Stange to the southwest . On February 27, 2020, there were 7,674 people in the community.
history
The name comes from the norrönen word Lautin , which consists of loud (Erdvertiefung) and vin composed (meadow). The writing form Løten originated in the early 19th century.
Løten was originally the easternmost place in Hedmark and has always been a transit station between east and west. The old town center was by the 13th century church of Løten. When rail traffic started in 1862, Løten became the new commercial and administrative center on Rørosbane .
Industry
The Løiten distillery, founded in 1855, made Løten famous. In 1927, the production of spirits was taken over by Vinmonopolet , but the production of raw alcohol continued until the 1990s. The traditional Løiten- Aquavit is produced today by Arcus AS .
Sports
Løten is also famous for its tradition in hammer throwing and has produced some young talents. These include Audun Nygård (* 1987), Erlend Vada (* 1983) and Maren Romstad (* 1983).
