Attractions

Lom is a tourist center with a few attractions:

  • The pillared stave church is the most photographed motif of the place. A monument to the Norwegian poet Olav Aukrust (1883–1929) has been erected in the forecourt of the church .
  • The open-air museum Loms-Hof consists of several old farmhouses that were built here from the area around Lom. It shows what a farm looked like in the 18th century. The St. Olaf House , a house on the edge of the courtyard, is of historical interest because, according to tradition, King Olav Haraldssohn stayed here on his travels. A collection of works by the poet Olav Aukrust is also of great importance.
  • The Fossheim Steinsenter is Norway's largest exhibition of native crystals and minerals. In addition to souvenirs and pieces of jewelry that are made in the workshop, other handicrafts can be purchased.
  • The Norsk Fjellmuseum (the Norwegian Mountain Museum ) deals with the Norwegian mountains and their development by humans.
  • The Sognefjellsveien begins in Lom and leads over the Jotunheimen mountains to the Sognefjord .
