history
In 1927, the so-called July conflict , a labor dispute among local raftsmen , took place in Elverum .
The city was Norway's capital for a short time during the German occupation when the royal family had to flee to Sweden and stopped here. The historic cityscape (“Parisian style” building) was destroyed in air raids in April 1940. Since Hedmark University was founded in 1994, Elverum has been a student town.
