Johan Christen Løken

Johan Christen Løken (born July 27, 1944 in Elverum , Fylke Hedmark ; † December 18, 2017 ) was a Norwegian politician of the conservative Høyre , who was a member of the Storting for twelve years and Minister of Agriculture in the Willoch government between 1981 and 1983 .

Life

Farmer, youth and local politician

Løken, son of the farmer Asbjørn Løken and the housewife Tora Eig, started working as a farmer on the Hvarstad farm in Heradsbygd near Elverum after attending school in 1964 and ran this business for over forty years until 2005. He also began studying for one year Agricultural sciences and then in 1965 a year-long study of forest sciences at the agricultural school in Jønsberg. In 1966 he began studying forest science at the Agricultural College in Ås , which he graduated in 1969 as a forestry candidate. As chairman of the Conservative Student Forum at Ås Agricultural College, he was also a member of the National Board of the Norwegian Conservative Students' Union from 1967 to 1968. After completing his military service in a system group at the Defense Research Institute in 1970, in addition to his agricultural activities between 1970 and 1981, he also accepted advisory assignments from the industrial association, the Agricultural University, the Agricultural Research Council and the Norwegian Reindeer Association.

His political career began Løken im Unge Høyre , the youth association of his party, in which he was chairman in Elverum from 1963 to 1964 and then until 1965 chairman in Fylke Hedmark. Later he was a member of the Central Board of Unge Høyre Norway from 1967 to 1971 . He then became involved in local politics and was a member of Elverum City Council between 1971 and 1979. In addition, he was from 1972 to 1974 secretary of the agricultural policy committee of his party and from 1974 to 1974 chairman of the Høyre city association Elverum. In addition to his role as chairman of the Høyre in Fylke Hedmark, he was also a member of the central board of the Høyre from 1976 to 1982.

He was then a member of the Fylke Hedmark committee between 1979 and 1981. During this time he was also vice-chairman of the advisory board of the Elverum Chamber of Commerce from 1978 to 1981, chairman of the advisory board for the district development fund and also chairman of the supervisory board of the Elverum electricity company from 1979 to 1981.

Member of the Storting and Minister of Agriculture

After he was a deputy member of the Storting between 1977 and 1981, Løken was elected for the first time as a member of the Storting in the 1981 parliamentary election as a candidate for the Høyre and represented the interests of Fylke Hedmark for twelve years until the parliamentary election on September 13, 1993 .

On October 14, 1981 Løken was appointed Minister of State (Prime Minister) Kåre Willoch as Minister of Agriculture ( Statsråd, Landbruksdepartementet ) in his government and held this ministerial office until his replacement on June 8, 1983 by Finn T. Isaksen from the Senterpartiet (Sp). During this time, Åse-Marit Dobloug acted as his representative in the Storting.

After leaving the government, he was first a member of the Judiciary Committee from June to October 1983 and then from October 1983 to September 1993 a member of the Storting Finance Committee. In addition, he worked from December 1985 to September 1993 as a member of the parliamentary delegation to the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) and from November 1989 to November 1990 as a member of the Storting delegation to the Nordic Council .

Since 1994 Løken has had his own consultancy (Johan C. A / S). At the same time he was active as chairman of the advisory board of the Norwegian Horse Center ( Norsk Hestesenter ) from 1994 to 2010, as chairman of the advisory board of the Elverum Festival between 1994 and 1996, as chairman of the Foundation for the Church of Heradsbygd since 2001 and as Chairman of the Advisory Board of the Defense Policy Research Institute ( Forsvarets Forskningsinstitutt ). Between 2007 and 2011 he was again a member of the Elverum Municipal Council and has also been chairman of the Norwegian Forestry Association ( Det Norske Skogselskap ) since 2008 . Since 2010 he has been chairman of the advisory board of the Norwegian Forest Museum Foundation ( Norsk Skogmuseum ). Løken also took on numerous functions in business and was, among other things, chairman of numerous supervisory boards.
