University of Environmental and Life Sciences

The University of Environmental and Life Sciences ( Norwegian : Norges miljø- og biovitenskapelige universitet (NMBU) ) is a state university in Ås , Viken , near Oslo . The university has about 5000 students and 1988 employees. It was founded as an Agricultural School in 1859. It became a college in 1897 (Agricultural School) and received university status in 2005. In 2014 it merged with the Norwegian Veterinary School .

The university is divided into three faculties, which are further subdivided into 13 departments:

  • Faculty of Environmental Science and Technology
  • Faculty of Social Sciences
  • Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Life Sciences
