The Telemark University ( Norwegian Høgskolen i Telemark ), HiT for short , was a state university with locations in , Notodden , Porsgrunn and Rauland ( Telemark ) with around 6500 students and 650 employees (2006).

It was founded in 1994 through the merger of four smaller universities as part of the university reform . In 2016 HiT merged with the university in Buskerud and Vestfold to form the University of Southeast Norway . On May 4, 2018, it finally became the University of Southeast Norway .

The Telemark University is divided into four faculties:

  • Faculty of General Science (Campus )
  • Faculty for Aesthetic Subjects, Folk Culture and Teacher Training ( Notodden / Rauland Campus )
  • Faculty of Health and Social Sciences ( Porsgrunn Campus )
  • Faculty of Technology (Porsgrunn Campus)

The HiT had three doctoral programs and, unlike the German university of applied sciences, also offered opportunities to obtain a doctorate .
