The Oslomet - storbyuniversitetet (German Oslomet - Metropolitan University , English Oslo Metropolitan University ) is a state university in Oslo and Akershus . It emerged from the Oslo and Akershus University of Applied Sciences (Norwegian: Høgskolen i Oslo og Akershus ), which received university status in 2018. It has about 20,000 students and 2,100 employees. It is not to be confused with the older University of Oslo (founded in 1811).

The Oslo and Akershus University of Applied Sciences was created in 2011 from the merger of the Oslo University of Applied Sciences and the Akershus University of Applied Sciences . The two universities were created in 1994 from a merger of several universities in Oslo. From 2014 the university merged with several research institutes in Oslo.

Much of the university is housed in a former brewery in central Oslo.

The university is a partner school of the University of Ansbach , Academy of Sciences Dresden and Technische Hochschule Ingolstadt .
