The Bergen University ( Norwegian Høgskolen i Bergen ) short HiB - is a public university in the Norwegian city of Bergen . With around 6,700 students and 620 employees in the 2008 summer semester, it was the city's second largest educational institution after the University of Bergen .

history

After the Norwegian higher education reform in 1994, six Bergen-based universities merged to form the Bergen University of Applied Sciences .

The Bergen University of Applied Sciences was founded in 1994 and is divided into three faculties, so-called "Avdelinger" :

  • the Faculty of Health and Social Affairs ( Avdeling for helse- og sosialfag ),
  • the Faculty of Engineering Education ( Avdeling for ingeniørutdanning ),
  • and the Faculty of Teacher Education ( Avdeling for lærarutdanning ).

The rector of the university was Eli Bergsvik until 2011, and Ole-Gunnar Søgnen since 2012.

New campus

On May 1, 2014, the university took over the new campus on the former site of NSB Verkstedet Kronstad at Inndalsveien 28. Studies in the new building began on August 25, 2014.
