NSB Verkstedet Kronstad was a railway depot and a repair shop of the Norges Statsbaner (NSB) in the Kronstad district of the Norwegian city ​​of Bergen .

history

The Kronstad depot was opened in 1909 in connection with the opening of the Bergensbane . The workshop was next to Kronstad train station, 2.67 km from Bergen train station. This station was designed by the architect Egill Reimers and was in operation from 1913 to 1965 until the opening of the Ulrikstunnel . The workshop was still used until it was closed in 1997.

In the repair shop that has emerged from the railway depot over the years, general inspections were carried out on steam locomotives . In addition, shunting locomotives such as the Skd 217 and Skd 220 series were built in the workshop using supplied components . 58 of the Skd 220c were built between 1963 and 1973. The first 14 locomotives were from Levahn Mek. Delivered Verksted in Oslo . For the rest, Levahn delivered the wheel sets to NSB Verkstedet Kronstad in Bergen , where the locomotives were assembled.

The workshop buildings on Inndalsveien 28 lying on an approximately 50 hectares of which partially of Bergen-Hardanger Voss Billag A / S belonged. This transport company had its head office in Inndalsveien 22.

future

The new campus of the Bergen University of Applied Sciences ( Norwegian Høgskolen i Bergen ) was built at Inndalsveien 28 on the 72 hectare railway site owned by the state company Statsbygg . The university took over this on May 1, 2014. Studies in the new building began on August 25, 2014. Around 48 hectares were required for this. The remaining area in the northern part is intended for other companies as well as commercial and residential units.

Residential buildings have been built on the vacant plots since March 2019.
