The diesel-hydraulic small locomotives of the NSB Skd 220 series were used by Norges Statsbaner ( German  Norwegian State Railways ) in Norway from 1962 . The locomotive was used for smaller transport tasks and for shunting on connecting railways and in train stations.

history

The vehicles of the Skd 220 series were manufactured by Levahn Mek from 1962 to 1972 . Verksted and NSB Verkstedet Kronstad built and delivered in three different sub-series. While the 220a and 220b have the same basic construction, the 220c is completely different. However, all series have the same motor and the same hydraulic transmission, so that they could be used alternately for the same tasks.

NSB Skd 220a

The 19 two-axle locomotives have a central driver's cab . It is driven by cardan shafts . The hydraulic fluid transmission developed by TwinDisk in Racine , Wisconsin , was supplied as the transmission.

NSB Skd 220b

Ten vehicles (seven new builds and three conversions from the 220a series ) were intended for the NSB's electrical workshops. For this purpose, they were coupled to an inspection car with which the overhead lines were examined. For this purpose, they were equipped with a pantograph to ground the overhead line and to control the overhead line.

The conversion and equipment with a pantograph of the 220a 164 and 220a 165 took place in 1967, that of the 220a 163 not until 1970. The locomotives kept their company numbers.

NSB Skd 220c

58 of this type were built between 1963 and 1973. The first 14 locomotives were built by '' Levahn Mek. Verksted '' in Oslo . For the rest, Levahn delivered the wheel sets to NSB Verkstedet Kronstad in Bergen , where the locomotives were assembled. Nevertheless, all locomotives of the 220c series were called "Levahn tractors" . The 220c is much shorter than the other two types. They have a drive with a jackshaft .

Some of the locomotives were taken over by Jernbaneverket and given the series designation XSkd 220c .

Selected missions

From January 1963, 220b 122 was stationed in Narvik and coupled with an inspection car in April. This unit was assigned to the electrical department responsible for the Narvik – Riksgränsen (Ofotbanen) railway line . In 1981 these tests were taken over by the newly delivered Lm 2 03 revision railcar from Levahn.

The first shunter in the ARE terminal ( Arctic Rail Express ) in Fagernes was the 220c 207 . The locomotive came to Narvik in 1995. This was the first shunting locomotive that was allowed to be operated by station staff in Narvik, as this was reserved for trained locomotive personnel in all other locomotive series up to that point. The 220c was the weakest shunting locomotive in the terminal and was partly used together with the Z67 628 . The locomotive was taken over by the Swedish company Skandinaviska Jernbanor in 2012 .

Whereabouts

  • The type 220a locomotives were retired between 1990 and 1997, the 220a 153 has been preserved as a museum locomotive in Otta. In addition, the 220a 162 at Urskog – Hølandsbanen still existed for a long time , which this locomotive was needed for shunting work on a standard-gauge siding. In various articles the locomotive is referred to as 220b 162 , although there are no recordings with a pantograph. In 2009 the unmarked locomotive was out of service in Sørumsand.
  • The type 220b locomotives were decommissioned between 1991 and 1999; none of them have survived . The last example was the 220b 164 . It was taken over by Norsk Jernbaneklubb in 1998 and assigned to the Trøndelag workshop group. She was previously employed by the Trøndelag electrical department at Kvål station. The locomotive was scrapped in April 2010.
  • 220c 182 was taken over by the Norsk Jernbaneklubb in 2001. When it was taken over, the vehicle was painted yellow / red. In 2013 it was repainted in the red-brown color that NSB used in the 1970s and 1980s. The locomotive is used on the Krøderbane . It is used for shunting tasks, as a work locomotive and occasionally as a train locomotive for passenger trains.
  • Most of the 220c series locomotives have already been decommissioned and scrapped. There were visual reports from the 220c 212 , which was in service on March 23, 2012 in the NSB Sundland depot in Drammen , and from the 220c 206 on June 30, 2012 in Bergen .

CargoNet Skd 220

220c 184 and 220c 208 were taken over by CargoNet in 2002. They kept their original company numbers.

OBAS Skd 220

The three locomotives 220c 176 , 220c 203 and 220c 211 were bought on March 1, 2005 by the private railway company Ofotbanen AS . The company went bankrupt in 2009. The whereabouts of the 220c 176 after the company's insolvency is unknown. After a period of stoppage, the Swedish company Skandinaviska Jernbanor acquired the other two locomotives from the bankruptcy estate .

SKJB Skd 220

In 2012, the Swedish company Skandinaviska Jernbanor acquired the 220c 203 and 220c 211 as well as the 220c 207 used in the ARE terminal . The company uses the 211 in the company's workshop in Uddevalla and the 207 in Storlien . The 203 is used by NTT Sverige AB in Gothenburg , a maintenance company for rail vehicles. The UIC no. the series is 98 74 2200 2XX-Y S-SKJB.
