CargoNet AS (CN) is a Norwegian railway company . It operates freight traffic on the state rail network managed by Jernbaneverket (JBV). It has the necessary certificates to transport freight trains in Norway and Sweden.
history
At the beginning of 2002, the state railway Norges Statsbaner (NSB) parted ways with its freight transport division NSB Gods . While NSB kept 55% of the shares, the Swedish company Green Cargo acquired 45% of the shares. This resulted in the new company CargoNet.
In 2010 NSB bought back the shares from Green Cargo and has since been a subsidiary of NSB and organized as a group.
The head office is located at Dyvekes vei 2 in Oslo. Terminal operations in Norway have been outsourced to a separate subsidiary, RailCombi AS , which also provides services for other railway companies at other terminals. CargoNet is also the majority owner of the car group Tømmervogner AS.
CargoNet focuses on block train and combined transport . These are the freight transport sectors that are worthwhile given the density of the Norwegian rail network. Norway is a sparsely populated country with 80% of the population living on the coast. This is why containers and other swap bodies make handling between ship, road and rail easier. In addition, Green Cargo operates single wagon load traffic in southern Norway as far as Drammen. With around 780 employees, CargoNet achieved a turnover of 1.5 billion NKR in 2011 (around 200 million EUR).
The group had around 430 employees in January 2017.
Freight yards
Railcombi AS operates freight terminals for the handling of swap bodies in Narvik , Bodø , Fauske , Mo i Rana , Trondheim , Oslo - Alnabru , Bergen , Ganddal and Kristiansand , where (mostly) ports are also located. The Oslo-Alnabru marshalling yard east of Oslo Sentralstasjon is the main terminal.
Train conveyance
For the traction that are Elektrolokbaureihen El 14 , El 16 and CE 119 for the traction of trains on the electrified lines and the diesel locomotive series Di 8, CD 66 and CD 312 on the non-electrified routes. Several small locomotives are used for shunting and construction train services for JBV .
