Storlien is a small town ( Småort ) in the Swedish province of Jämtlands län and the historic province (landskap) Jämtland .
The ski resort in Åre municipality has 97 residents and is about two kilometers from the Norwegian border. Its existence is based mainly on winter tourism, as it offers good conditions for alpine skiing , snowmobile tours and cross-country skiing . Nine lifts take care of the transport to the surrounding mountain peaks. In summer, mountain hiking and hunting tours start here. In the last few decades, the town's retail trade has increased significantly, as many Norwegians come across the border to buy more cheaply here.

Storlien is located on European route 14 and on the Östersund – Trondheim railway line and has a train station in the center of the village, which is the highest in Sweden at 592 meters. Mainly in the winter season there are several night train connections to Stockholm , Gothenburg and Malmö .
The nearest airport is Trondheim Værnes , about 70 kilometers to the west. In Sweden, the next landing site is 150 kilometers east in Östersund.
