Duved is a district of Åre in the Swedish province of Jämtlands län . North of about 7 km west of the center of Åre about 400  m ö.h. the high altitude Duved rises 1031.1  m ö.h. high Mullfjället , the Indalsälven flows south .

history

At the beginning of August 1718, a campaign by Carl Gustaf Armfelt's Carolinians began from Duved with the aim of taking Trondheim . A total of 10,073 people took part in the campaign. This campaign failed. On the retreat from Tydal to Duved, the army got caught in a snowstorm on New Years 1718/1719, and around 3000 people froze to death between Tydal and Handöl in the fells .

Before 2015, Duved was an independent crime scene with 663 residents last (2010), but then grew together with Åre to the east.

The ski area

Duved and the towns of Tegefjäll , Åre and Björnen to the east form the ski area of Åre, one of the largest in Sweden. The atmosphere in the smaller Duved is generally quieter than in Åre, as there are mostly holiday homes, but fewer hotels.

Alpine

Duved and Tegefjäll together have a total of 11 ski lifts and 27 ski slopes. There is no continuous lift and piste connection to Åre due to the high plateau between Mullfjället and Åreskutan . Ski buses run for this. The Hamrelift is also open in the evening twice a week (2013). The first Duved ski lifts were built in 1962. Tegefjäll was expanded in 1986 and in 1988 the Duved and Tegefjäll ski lift systems were connected.

Cross-country skiing

In Duved there are groomed trails with lengths between 2.5 and 15 kilometers, some of which are also illuminated in the evening. There is also the possibility of going on ski tours on marked hiking trails, for example to Mullfjället or to Ullådalen .

Infrastructure

On the northern edge of the town, the European route 14 runs from Östersund to Trondheim. Duved has a train station with regular train connections to Trondheim, Östersund, Stockholm and southern Sweden. Duved owns a school with lessons from preschool to 9th grade, the catchment area of which extends to Storlien and Skalstugan on the Norwegian border .

Attractions

In Duved there is a wooden church in neo-Gothic style from 1894. In the Duvedsbyn group of houses two kilometers west of Duved, the Carolinian monument commemorates the catastrophe of New Year 1718/1719. A few meters away are the remains of the Duved Schanze (Duved skans), which served as a base for a Swedish company from 1658 to 1809. Ten kilometers northwest of Duved is Tännforsen , Sweden's largest waterfall.
