Coordinates: 63 ° 24 ′ N , 13 ° 5 ′ O Åre is a municipality ( Swedish kommun ) in the Swedish province of Jämtlands län and the historic province of Jämtland . The main town of the municipality is Järpen .
Origin of the community
Today's municipality of Åre was established on January 1st 1974 from a merger of the formerly smaller and independent municipalities of Undersåker, Kall, Mörsil, Hallen and Åre. The former, smaller municipality of Åre consisted of Åre, Duved, Storlien, Ånn and the Skalstugan with its surrounding area.
geography
The municipality of Åre extends along the European route E 14 from the Norwegian border (border town Storlien) 120 km east to Lake Storsjön . The municipality border with Norway is about 150 kilometers (from north to south). Åre is a mountainous community with high mountains and forest and moor areas in the valleys of the headwaters of the Indalsälven , which form numerous mountain lakes. There are also several large waterfalls in this area, such as Tännforsen and Ristafallet, both on Åreälven .

economy
The main industry of the municipality is tourism, which employs 25% of the workforce. The tourist centers are the Åre-Duved and Storlien ski areas.
