The Storsjön ( / ˈstuːˌʂœn / ) is the fifth largest lake in Sweden with its 456 square kilometers and a maximum depth of 74 meters . The largest island is Frösön , together with the city of Östersund on the mainland it forms the center of the historical province of Jämtland . The Indalsälven river flows through the lake.
Other places around the lake are Krokom , Brunflo , Orrviken , Myrviken , Svenstavik and several smaller ones. The islands of Andersön, Skansholmen and Isön in Storsjön are nature reserves.
A monster is said to live in the lake, the Storsjöodjuret .
