Brunflo is a district of Östersund in the Swedish province of Jämtlands län or in the historic province of Jämtland . It is located about 17 km southeast of the center of Östersund at the end of a bay of Lake Storsjön . Historic districts of Brunflo are Änge, Rosenlund and Storviken.
The place originated in the Viking Age . In the course of Christianization in the 12th century, the Archbishop of Härnösand had a defense tower built in Brunflo, which, together with the church, is not far from the town center. The local economy has long been dominated by the processing of limestone that was quarried nearby .
Before 2015, Brunflo had the status of an independent crime scene with the last (2010) 3890 inhabitants, making it the second largest in the province. Gradually grown together with Östersund, Brunflo was integrated into the Tatort Östersund together with the towns of Optand and Ope in the direction of the center .
Brunflo has a station on the Sundsvall – Storlien railway line and the domestic railway branching off there in the direction of Mora and is located on European routes 45 ( Inlandsvägen ) and 14 .
