Mora is a place ( Tatort ) in the Swedish province of Dalarna County and the historical province of Dalarna . The place is the main town of the eponymous municipality and is located at the northern end of Lake Siljan .
history
The place name comes from the old Swedish word mor , which means something like "forest on damp ground". The area was inhabited early on, which is explained by archaeological finds from the Vendel period and the time of the Vikings .
One of the earliest surviving key fiddles comes from Mora and was built in the 16th century.
Cityscape
Mora is an industrial and tourist town . Here is the house of the painter Anders Zorn (1860–1920), who was born in Mora. The Zorn Museum with its works and works by well-known international artists, his house (Zorngården) and his birthplace (Zorns gammelgård) can be visited today. The shopping street, the town hall and some museums are located in the Morastrand district .
Sports
The ice hockey club Mora IK , founded in 1935, has spent many years in the top Swedish league. The team's home arena is called Jalas Arena and is popularly known as Smidjegrav. Every year around Christmas the FM Matsson Cup, a junior tournament, takes place here. After being promoted in spring 2017, the club will play again in the top Swedish league, SHL, in the 2017/18 season .
Mora is also the destination of the annual Wasa Run , a 90-kilometer cross-country skiing competition.
The men's team and the women's team in floorball both play in the highest Swedish league.

Mora is the terminus of the Mora – Uppsala railway , also known as Dalabanan , a railway line from Stockholm via Uppsala to Mora. Mora is currently the southern terminus of the inland railway , which runs north from here towards Östersund and Gällivare . The Inlandsbahn buses go south in the direction of Kristinehamn . There is a short railway line to Älvdalen ( Älvdalsbahn ), but there is no passenger train service.
In Mora, the N 70 from Enköping (west of Stockholm) to Drevsjø in Norway and the E45 from Gothenburg to Östersund, Gällivare, Karesuando and Alta, called “Inlandsvägen”, cross in this section .
The city is connected to the scheduled air traffic via the Mora-Siljan Airport (Mora Siljan Flygplats) . There are regular flight connections to Stockholm to Arlanda Airport .
