Pär Djoos (born May 11, 1968 in Mora ) is a former Swedish ice hockey player and current coach , who played for the Detroit Red Wings and the New York Rangers in the National Hockey League from 1984 to 2003 . Since 2009 he has been the head coach at IF Sundsvall Hockey in HockeyAllsvenskan . His son Christian is also a professional ice hockey player.

Career

Pär Djoos began his career as an ice hockey player in his hometown with Mora IK , for whose professional team he was active from 1984 to 1986 in Division 1, the second Swedish division. Then the defender played for four years for Brynäs IF in the Elitserien , before he was signed by the Detroit Red Wings , who had selected him in the 1986 NHL Entry Draft in the seventh round as a total of 127th player. For Detroit he was in the 1990/91 season in the National Hockey League in 26 games on the ice, in which he was twelve templates. He also scored eleven scorer points, including two goals, in the American Hockey League in 20 games for Detroit's farm team Adirondack Red Wings . On March 5, 1991, shortly before the end of the trade deadline , he was transferred to the New York Rangers together with Joe Kocur in exchange for Kevin Miller , Jim Cummins and Dennis Vial , but played exclusively for their AHL farm team Binghamton Rangers until the end of the season . In the 1991/92 season , the Swede was able to earn a regular place with the New York Rangers in the NHL, for which he scored 19 points in 50 games, including one goal. In the following season he completed only six games for New York in the NHL and spent the entire season with their AHL farm team Binghamton Rangers. For Binghamton he scored 79 points scorer in a total of 84 games, including 18 goals. Because of these achievements, he was elected to the AHL All-Star Team in the same season.

For the 1993/94 season Djoos returned to Europe, where he scored ten goals in 45 games for HC Lugano in the Swiss National League A and made 32 assists. From 1994 to 1996 he was in the Elitserien with Västra Frölunda HC under contract. The 1995/96 season , however, he ended with the second division Södertälje SK , with which he immediately succeeded in advancing to the Elitserien. From 1996 until his retirement at the age of 35 following the 2002/03 season, he played for his ex-club Brynäs IF in the Elitserien. His biggest success with Brynäs was winning the Swedish championship in the 1998/99 season . He contributed to this success as the best template provider in the Elitserien, both in the main round and in the playoffs. He was also elected to the Elitserien All-Star Team and the Swedish All-Star Team, a selection of the best Swedish ice hockey players around the world. In 2000 and 2001 he took part in the All-Star Game of the Elitserien.

From 2005 to 2007 Djoos was an assistant coach at Mora IK in the Elitserien. After he began the 2007/08 season in this role, he replaced his compatriot Magnus Arvedson during the season and worked briefly as an interim coach for the team before he was replaced by the Finn Kari Eloranta . Since 2009 he has been the head coach at IF Sundsvall Hockey in the second-rate HockeyAllsvenskan .

International

For Sweden , Djoos took part in the junior division at the U18 European Junior Championship in 1986 and the U20 World Junior Championship in 1988 . At the U18 European Championship in 1986 he won the silver medal with his team and he himself was elected to the all-star team of the tournament. In the senior sector, he was in his country's squad at the 1990 and 1999 World Championships . He won a silver and a bronze medal with Sweden.
