Career

Jim Cummins first played in the 1987/88 season for the Detroit Compuware Ambassadors in the North American Hockey League . He then began studying at Michigan State University and spent the next three years on the ice for their ice hockey team, the Spartans , in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association . During this time, the championship of the CCHA was won twice, in 1989 and 1990. In addition, Cummins was selected in the fourth round of the 1989 NHL Entry Draft at a total of 67th position by the New York Rangers . Before completing his university career, however, he was transferred to the Detroit Red Wings in March 1991 as part of an exchange deal . For this he made his debut in the National Hockey League in the 1991/92 season , but spent most of the season on the farm team with the Adirondack Red Wings in the American Hockey League , where Cummins played his role as enforcer . His 338 penalty minutes in 65 regular season games were the second most in the team and the fourth most in the league. In the same season he won the Calder Cup with Adirondack and was used in five playoff games for the team. The American was also part of the AHL farm team of the Detroit Red Wings the following game year, but also made seven NHL appearances for the team from Hockeytown .

In June 1993 he was given to the Philadelphia Flyers , for which the right wing completed 22 games. In the same season this transferred him with a four-round suffrage in the 1995 NHL Entry Draft in exchange for Rob DiMaio to the Tampa Bay Lightning , with Cummins being on the ice in 14 games. As a member of the IHL Atlanta Knights farm team , he won the Turner Cup in 1994 . In February 1995 the Bolts gave it to the Chicago Blackhawks , along with Tom Tilley and Jeff Buchanan, in exchange for Paul Ysebaert and Rich Sutter . In Windy City , the enforcer was active for the first time in his NHL career as a regular player and spent over 100 minutes in the penalty box in all of his four seasons in the dress of the Blackhawks. Another swap took place in March 1998 when the Hawks and Keith Carney transferred him to the Phoenix Coyotes in exchange for Chad Kilger and Jayson More . Another NHL station in his career was in the 1999/2000 season, the Montréal Canadiens , before Cummins signed in July 2000 as a free agent with the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim . For the Californians he played 81 games before he was given up to the New York Islanders in the spring of 2002 . After the winger had suspended the game for the following season, he returned for the 2003/04 season back to the National Hockey League and let his career fade away in the jersey of the Colorado Avalanche .
