He was subsequently selected in the 1995 NHL Entry Draft as fourth overall in the first round by the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim . On February 7, 1996 he was transferred in a transfer deal with Oleg Twerdowski and a third-round draft election of the Winnipeg Jets for Teemu Selänne , Marc Chouinard and a four-round suffrage to the Winnipeg Jets. When his performance did not improve, he was given to the Chicago Blackhawks . In two seasons he scored 36 scorer points in 86 games for the Blackhawks, including 17 goals. In March 1999 he was transferred to the Edmonton Oilers together with Daniel Cleary and Ethan Moreau for Christian Laflamme , Boris Mironow , Dean McAmmond and Jonas Elofsson . After a year and a half, he moved to the Montréal Canadiens in December 2000 , where he was able to assert himself. In his first season with the Canadiens, he stood on the ice for an average of about 18 minutes. In March 2004 he moved to the Toronto Maple Leafs .

Non-signature in Florida

On February 26, the 2008 Trade Deadline , the Toronto Maple Leafs transferred Chad Kilger to the Florida Panthers for a third-round draft pick . He immediately demanded a leave of absence from the management of the Panthers, which they also granted him. However, since he did not return to Florida in the agreed period, management suspended the contract with the Canadian for an indefinite period. Kilger was also not allowed to go to training camp at the beginning of the 2008/09 season . By the end of the season he had neither played for the Panthers nor publicly given a statement for the non-fulfillment of his contract. His mother confirmed that her son was on leave. Former Maple Leafs general manager Cliff Fletcher stated that Kilger was now retired, although Kilger had never announced it before. Chad Kilger officially retired from professional ice hockey on July 10, 2009. He now works as a firefighter in his native Cornwall in the province of Ontario .
