Harold Priestley "Hal" Gill III. (Born April 6, 1975 in Concord , Massachusetts ) is a former American ice hockey player who played 1219 games for the Boston Bruins , Toronto Maple Leafs , Pittsburgh Penguins , Canadiens de Montréal , Nashville, among others, in the course of his active career between 1993 and 2014 Predators and Philadelphia Flyers in the National Hockey League on the position of defenderhas denied. Gill celebrated his greatest career success in the service of the Pittsburgh Penguins by winning the Stanley Cup in 2009 .
Career
The 2.01 m tall defender was selected ( drafted ) in the 1993 NHL Entry Draft as 207th in the eighth round of the Boston Bruins and played during his student days for the team of Providence College in the Hockey East , a league in the game operations of the college organization National Collegiate Athletic Association .
In his first season in Boston, the left-handed shooter made it into the regular Bruins squad in 1997 , for which he was continuously on the ice in the highest North American professional league until 2006 . Gill spent the lockout in the 2004/05 season with Lukko Rauma in the Finnish SM-liiga . On July 1, 2007, the defender signed a three-year contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs , but they transferred him to the Pittsburgh on February 26, 2008 in exchange for a second-round draft pick in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft and a five-round draft pick in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft Penguins . With the penguins, Gill reached the final of the Stanley Cup , the North American ice hockey championship, in the same year , but the franchise lost this in six games against the Detroit Red Wings .
Gill signed a contract with the Canadiens de Montréal on July 1, 2009 .
On February 17, 2012, the Habs transferred him to the Nashville Predators, along with a five-round performance-related vote in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft in exchange for strikers Blake Geoffrion and Robert Slaney, and a second-round vote in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft . He played his first game for the Predators on February 19, 2012 against the Dallas Stars , in which the defender was on the ice for 16 minutes and the Predators won 3-2.
On October 1, 2013, Gill signed a one-year contract with the Philadelphia Flyers , which, however , was not renewed after only six missions following the 2013/14 season . After the American did not receive any new engagement within the NHL in the following season , he announced his official end of career in April 2015.
International
With the US national team , Hal Gill won the bronze medal at the 2004 World Cup , and he also took part with the team in the 2000 , 2001 , 2005 and 2006 finals. The defender scored a total of two assists in 39 World Cup games . In addition, Gill was in the team of "Team USA" at the World Cup of Hockey 2004 and at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin .
