NHL Entry Draft
|
The 1993 NHL Entry Draft took place on June 26, 1993 at the Colisée de Québec in Québec City in the Canadian province of Québec . In the 31st edition of the NHL Entry Draft , the teams of the National Hockey League (NHL) selected a total of 286 players in eleven rounds. The Canadian center Alexandre Daigle was selected by the Ottawa Senators as the first overall draft pick . Chris Pronger for the Hartford Whalers and Chris Gratton for the Tampa Bay Lightning followed in second and third . The order of the draft resulted from the reversed final table of the previous season 1992/93 , with the playoff teams after the teams that had missed the playoffs. Meanwhile, the newly formed Mighty Ducks of Anaheim and Florida Panthers were assigned the fourth and fifth voting rights of each round, before both teams were allowed to vote in reverse order of one and two in the following year.
Alexandre Daigle was to become one of the weakest overall firsts in the history of the NHL Entry Draft, while shortly after him, Chris Pronger and Paul Kariya (4th), the two players who were previously represented in the Hockey Hall of Fame , were selected. Subsequently, the first round produced Rob Niedermayer , Wiktor Koslow , Jason Arnott , Jocelyn Thibault , Adam Deadmarsh , Saku Koivu and Todd Bertuzzi , while with Jamie Langenbrunner , Bryan McCabe , Václav Prospal , Miroslav Šatan , Tommy Salo , Patrick Lalime , Todd Marchant , Andrew Brunette , Pavol Demitra and Kimmo Timonen other notable actors in the course followed.
