He was then selected in the 1993 NHL Entry Draft in the first round as the 19th player of the Toronto Maple Leafs . However, he never played for the Maple Leafs, as they gave him in June 1994 to the Québec Nordiques . After playing for the University of North Dakota University team in the National Collegiate Athletic Association from 1993 to 1995, the attacker made his professional ice hockey debut in the 1994/95 season when he played a total of 21 games for the Cornwall Aces from the American Hockey League accrued. The American began the 1996/97 season with the Colorado Avalanche before moving to the Boston Bruins , for whom he played in the NHL over the next three and a half years as well as in the AHL for their farm team, the Providence Bruins . From 2000 to 2004 Wilson played for the NHL franchise Phoenix Coyotes , while he ended the 2003/04 season with the Pittsburgh Penguins .

Wilson bridged the lockout during the 2004/05 NHL season in Europe with the Espoo Blues from the Finnish SM-liiga . After a year in Finland, he joined the Swiss National League A . There he initially ran a season for HC Davos before he went to league rivals HC Lugano for the 2006/07 season .
