Rawil Midechatowitsch Gusmanow ( Russian Равиль Мидехатович Гусманов ; born July 25, 1972 in Naberezhnye Chelny , Russian SFSR ) is a former Russian ice hockey player and current coach.
Career
Rawil Gusmanow began his career as a hockey player at HK Traktor Chelyabinsk , for which he was active in the Russian Super League from 1990 to 1994 and was runner-up in the CIS in the 1992/93 season. During this period he was also selected in the NHL Entry Draft 1993 in the fourth round as a total of 93rd player from the Winnipeg Jets , for which he made his debut in the National Hockey League in the 1995/96 season , where he scored in four games - and remained unpunished. The rest of the season he spent as well as the preseason with Winnipeg's farm team from the American Hockey League , the Springfield Falcons . From 1996 to 1998, the attacker stood for the Indianapolis Ice in the International Hockey League and the Saint John Flames and Chicago Wolves in the American Hockey League.
In the summer of 1998 Gusmanow returned to Russia, where he was signed by HK Metallurg Magnitogorsk . With Magnitogorsk he was champion three times in the following ten years (1999, 2001 and 2007) and won the European Hockey League twice (1999, 2000). In addition, the winger was runner-up with Metallurg in 2004 and won the Spengler Cup with his team in 2005 and the IIHF European Champions Cup in 2008 . During this period he was taken on June 21, 2001 by the Minnesota Wild from the NHL under contract, for whose AHL farm team Houston Eros , however, he only completed one game before returning to Magnitogorsk.
After Gusmanow had also started the 2008/09 season at Metallurg Magnitogorsk in the newly founded Continental Hockey League , he moved to HK Traktor Chelyabinsk during the season within the KHL, where he began his career and ended in July 2010.
Between 2010 and 2014 he was assistant trainer at HK tractor. For the 2015/16 season he moved to Admiral Vladivostok , where he was employed in the same position, but returned to the HK Traktor coaching staff in November 2015. In September 2018, Gusmanov was the head coach of the tractor team, HK Tschelmet Tscheljabinsk , before a four-month interim position at Traktor followed. In January 2019 he returned to his original position. After spending the 2019/20 season in the People's Republic of China, he became assistant trainer at Traktor Chelyabinsk for the 2020/21 season
International
For the CIS Gusmanow took part in the U20 World Junior Championship in 1992 . For Russia he took part in the 1999 , 2001 and 2002 World Championships . He was also in the Russian squad for the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer .
