Jacob Berglund (born November 17, 1991 in Malmö ) is a Swedish ice hockey player who has been under contract with HK Traktor Tscheljabinsk from the Continental Hockey League (KHL) since May 2020 and plays there in the position of striker .

Career

Junior in Malmö and the WHL

Jacob Berglund received his ice hockey training from the Baby Hawks , the offspring of the Malmö Redhawks . As a 17-year-old, he joined the professional team of the then Swedish second division team in the 2008/09 season . He was appointed to the Swedish U16, U17 and U18 national teams by the Swedish Ice Hockey Federation. At the CHL Import Draft 2009, in which the three important Canadian junior ice hockey leagues see non- North American players for their teams, he was selected alongside Nino Niederreiter by the Portland Winterhawks from the Western Hockey League (WHL) . The 2009/10 season he began with the Portland Hawks and was transferred in January 2010 within the WHL for Luca Sbisa to the Lethbridge Hurricanes , for which he was also active in the 2010/11 season .

Successes in Norway and the National League B

After his junior years he returned to his home country for the 2011/12 season and was active for IF Troja-Ljungby in the second highest Swedish ice hockey league Allsvenskan for the following 3 seasons . Although Lundberg was one of the most successful players of his club in the relegation relegation of the 2013/14 season , he could not prevent his team's relegation to Division 1 at the end of this season . He then moved to the Storhamar Dragons in the highest Norwegian ice hockey league GET-ligaen for the 2014/15 season , with which he reached the play-off finals. His personal breakthrough came in the following 2015/16 season at the Dragons, when he was both the best-scoring player on his team and the most successful player in the play-offs and was voted Player of the Year in the Norwegian ice hockey league. He was also able to celebrate surprising successes with his team in the Champions Hockey League , such as the CHL goal of the 2015/16 season .

For the 2016/17 season he joined the Swiss second division club Magnity Red Ice . Although the club had financial problems during the season due to the withdrawal of the main sponsor, Berglund reached the play-offs with his team, was again the best point player on his team and was among the top 10 scorers of the National League B this season.

Engagement in the DEL master in Norway

For the 2017/18 season , Jacob Berglund signed a contract with the ERC Ingolstadt DEL team . Here he was able to convince as a team player, but also due to many changes of ranks he could not call up his scoring qualities. After the coaching change from his compatriot Tommy Samuelsson to Doug Shedden , he left Upper Bavaria in February 2018 due to the short playing times (49 games, 4 goals) and played the rest of the season with the Storhamar Dragons. This time he was able to win the Norwegian championship with the Dragons and was next to Kodie Curran the most successful player in the play-offs. For the 2018/19 season he tried again in the DEL and the avowed fan of the Pittsburgh Penguins signed a contract with the penguins from the German ice hockey league. At the Krefeld team he formed a successful attacking duo with Chad Costello and with 32 goals became the best scorer in the DEL main round 2018/19.

Change to the KHL

In May 2019, Berglund was signed by Dinamo Riga from the Continental Hockey League , but released shortly after the start of the season. In October 2019 he moved to Neftechimik Nizhnekamsk within the KHL , where he was active for a season. He was then signed by league competitor HK Traktor Chelyabinsk for the 2020/21 season .
