Alexander Ivanovich Tatishchev ( Russian Александр Иванович Татищев / Aleksandr Ivanovich Tatiščev * July 28 jul. / 8. August  1763 greg. In a village in the district Rylsk ; † June 5 jul. / 17th June  1833 greg. ) Was a Russian General and statesman.

Alexander, son of the aristocratic marshal captain Ivan Alexejewitsch Tatishchev (1738–1786), joined the 4th Jekaterinoslaw Dragoon Regiment as a sergeant in January 1774 after being trained by a private tutor . In September 1776 cornet , in September 1779 lieutenant , in March 1784 Rittmeister , in June 1787 Major Secundus, he took part in the assault on the fortress of Ochakov with his regiment during the Russo-Austrian Turkish War in 1788 and became major in 1790. In 1792 Tatishchev went to the Russo-Polish War . As a lieutenant colonel, he joined the Poltava light cavalry regiment in 1793 and in February 1795 became sub- stable master in the entourage of the Grand Dukes Alexander and Constantine .

On the occasion of Paul I's accession to the throne in November 1796, Alexander Tatishchev became a colonel . In October 1797 he became State Councilor, on July 9, 1798, Real State Councilor (civil servant, 4th class ) and in June 1801, Major General . Until 1807 he worked in the administration. The Moscow nobility had elected him chief of the militia. On March 2, 1808 it appointed Alexander I to General War Commissioner . In August 1811 Tatishchev was promoted to lieutenant general. As a war commissioner, he dealt primarily with logistics, supply, materials management and financing within the armed forces in the following war years and thereafter . Tatishchev was Minister of War from 1823 to 1827 . Also in 1823 he became a senator and a member of the State Council .

In January 1826 Tatishchev was the commission of inquiry in the process against the Decembrists .

On the occasion of Nicholas I's accession to the throne in the summer of 1826, Alexander Tatishchev was raised to the rank of count .

The marriage with Varvara Alexandrovna Butkewitsch (1776-1853), daughter of a commander of the Belosersk regiment, remained childless.
