Lukáš Sedlák (born February 25, 1993 in Budweis ) is a Czech ice hockey player who has been under contract with HK Traktor Chelyabinsk from the Continental Hockey League (KHL) since May 2019, where he plays in the center position. Previously, he spent over six years in the organization of the Columbus Blue Jackets from the National Hockey League (NHL) and won the Calder Cup of the American Hockey League (AHL) with their farm team Lake Erie Monsters in 2016 .
Career
Sedlák spent his junior years in the youth team at HC České Budějovice , the ice hockey club in his hometown. There he played up to the age of 18 up to the A-Juniors, before he moved to North America . The Saguenéens de Chicoutimi from the Ligue de hockey junior majeur du Québec (LHJMQ) secured the services of the striker via the CHL Import Draft and deployed him at the beginning of the 2011/12 season . Likewise, the Columbus Blue Jackets from the National Hockey League (NHL) secured the transfer rights for the Czech in the professional area in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft . They picked him 158th in the sixth round. Sedlák spent a total of two years in the LHJMQ at Chicoutimi.
In the summer of 2013, the attacker switched to the professional sector and the Blue Jackets franchise after signing a contract there in April of the same year. The center forward spent the first two years with the Springfield Falcons in the American Hockey League (AHL), but never reached the mark of 20 scorer points in more than 50 games - just as in the 2015/16 season with the Lake Erie Monsters . Only in the course of the play-offs in 2016 did Sedlák noticeably improve and, with 16 points in 17 appearances, played a key role in winning the Calder Cup . For the 2016/17 season , shortly after the start of the season, he made the jump to the NHL Blue Jackets squad, with which he then signed a new two-year contract in March 2017.
Sedlák then decided to leave North America after eight years, so that in May 2019 he joined the HK tractor Chelyabinsk from the Continental Hockey League (KHL).
International
For his home country Sedlák competed at the World U-17 Hockey Challenge 2010 , the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament 2010 , the U18 Junior World Championship in 2011 and the U20 Junior World Championship in 2012 and 2013 . He achieved the best placings at both U20 World Championships, which the Czechs finished in fifth place. In 2013 he led the squad as team captain .
Sedlák made his debut in the Czech national team during the 2019/20 season. In six test matches he scored four goals.
