Sergei Kalinin ( Russian Сергей Павлович Калинин ; English transcription: Sergei Pavlovich Kalinin ; * 17th March 1991 in Omsk , Russian SFSR ) is a Russian ice hockey player who since July 2020 when Traktor Chelyabinsk in the Continental Hockey League (KHL) under Contract stands and plays there on the position of the right winger .

Sergei Kalinin began his career as a hockey player in his hometown in the youth division of HK Awangard Omsk , for whose professional team he made his debut in the Continental Hockey League in the 2009/10 season . In his only season, he remained pointless and received two penalty minutes. The entire rest of the season spent the winger with Awangards junior team in the multinational youth league Molodjoschnaja Chokkeinaja Liga , in which he scored 38 scorer points in 62 games, including 15 goals.

The 2010/11 season began Kalinin parallel in the professional team of HK Awangard, as well as its junior team, where he was used much more often in the KHL team. After a total of six years in Omsk, where he led the team as captain in the 2014/15 season, he moved to the New Jersey Devils from the National Hockey League in May 2015 . He spent almost one and a half seasons there before the Devils sent him to the American Hockey League via the waiver list in February 2017 and then handed him over to the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for Viktor Lööv . There he was first assigned to the Toronto Marlies farm team from the AHL and ended the season there.

In July 2017 he returned to Russia and was signed by SKA Saint Petersburg . He completed one season for the club before moving to HK CSKA Moscow in August 2018 via transfer to the capital . Kalinin was on the ice for CSKA for two years before moving to HK Tractor Chelyabinsk after his contract expired in July 2020 .

International

For Russia , Kalinin took part in the 2011 U20 World Youth Championship , where he won the gold medal with his team. He contributed to winning the title with one goal and two assists in seven games. At the men's world championship in 2014 he won the gold medal with the Sbornaja and received the Order of Honor for this success . At the 2016 World Cup in his own country, he was again in the Russian squad and won the bronze medal with the team. He then became an Olympic champion at the 2018 Winter Olympics under a neutral flag.
