Roman Will (born May 22, 1992 in Plzeň , Czechoslovakia ) is a Czech ice hockey goalkeeper who has been under contract with HK Traktor Chelyabinsk from the Continental Hockey League (KHL) since April 2020 .

Career

Will comes from the offspring of HC Plzeň , the club in his hometown, but soon played in the youth team of BK Mladá Boleslav . He was a member of this until the summer of 2011, when he joined the Moncton Wildcats from the Ligue de hockey junior majeur du Québec . In his only season there, Will was appointed to the First All-Star Team and selected after the end of the season in the KHL Junior Draft 2012 in the fifth round in 122nd place by HC Lev Prague .

In the summer of 2012, the goalkeeper returned to BK Mladá Boleslav and managed to win the second division championship with the club in the following two seasons and, in 2014, finally promotion to the extra league . Will's achievements in recent years finally drew the attention of the Colorado Avalanche from the National Hockey League , which brought him to sign a two-year contract in May 2014. The Czech first spent the 2014/15 season in the minor leagues and played for Colorado's farm teams , the Lake Erie Monsters in the American Hockey League and the Fort Wayne Komets in the ECHL . In the 2015/16 season , Will was then active for the San Antonio Rampage in the AHL. He finally made his NHL debut on January 26, 2016 when he came on for Calvin Pickard in the final third . It was his only 18-minute mission at this level.

On May 10, 2016, he finally signed a contract with Bílí Tygři Liberec from the Czech Extraliga . After three seasons he moved to the Swedish club Rögle BK in the Svenska Hockeyligan , which he left again after a year and moved to the HK tractor Chelyabinsk in the Continental Hockey League .

International

Will played for his home country at the 2010 U18 World Junior Championship in Belarus . There he shared the goalkeeper position with Libor Kašík and finished sixth with the team at the end of the tournament.
