After the group matches in the preliminary round, the two group winners qualify directly for the semi-finals. The runners-up and thirds in the group each play a qualifying game for participation in the semi-finals. The fourth and fifth of the group games contest - if the result of the direct encounter from the preliminary round is taken with them - the relegation round and determine two relegated to Division I.

In Polish Krynica the tournament Group B took place from 11 to 17 April 2010 in Division I. All games were played in the Hala widowiskowo-sportowa w Krynicy-Zdroju , which can accommodate 3,000 spectators.
Due to the plane crash near Smolensk , in which a total of 96 people were killed, including the Polish President Lech Kaczyński and other high-ranking Polish politicians, the Polish Ice Hockey Federation decided that all games would take place without spectators.
