Adam Larsson (* 12. November 1992 in Skellefteå ) is a Swedish ice hockey player , who in since June 2016 Edmonton Oilers in the National Hockey League on the position of the defense plays. With the Swedish national team , he won the gold medal at the 2018 World Cup . His father Robert played for his home club Skellefteå AIK from 1985 to 1995 , and his older brother Hampus was also a professional ice hockey player.

Career

Adam Larsson began his career in the junior section of his home club Skellefteå AIK . In the 2008/09 season he played his first game for Skellefteå in Sweden's top division Elitserien . In the following season he was used regularly for the professional team and became a regular player. At the KHL Junior Draft 2010 , the defender of Lokomotive Yaroslavl was selected in the first round in a total of 17th position, but Larsson decided to continue to go on the ice for Skellefteå.

In the 2011 NHL Entry Draft , Larsson was selected in the first round in fourth position overall by the New Jersey Devils . On July 15, 2011, Larsson signed a three-year entry - level contract with the New Jersey Devils . The defensive player recommended himself in the pre-season for the NHL squad of the Devils and was used in 65 games in the 2011/12 season .

After five years in the service of the Devils, Larsson was given to the Edmonton Oilers in June 2016 in exchange for Taylor Hall .

International

Larsson represented the Swedish national team for the first time at an international tournament at the U18 World Junior Championship in 2009 . At the U18 Junior World Championship in 2010 , the defender was voted the best defender of the tournament, and the Swedes also won the silver medal after a final defeat against the US national team . At the U20 Junior World Championship in the same year Larsson won the bronze medal. The player also took part in the 2011 U20 World Junior Championship , but missed a medal spot.

In the senior division, the defender made his debut at the 2016 World Cup and finished sixth with the team. Two years later, the gold medal followed at the 2018 World Cup , with Larsson being elected to the tournament's all-star team.
