The 11th ice hockey world championships of the U18 juniors of the International Ice Hockey Federation IIHF were the ice hockey world championships of 2009 in the age group of under-eighteen year olds (U18). Between February 27 and April 19, 2009, a total of 44 national teams took part in the seven tournaments of the top division and divisions I to III.
The world champion was the fourth time the United States team , which defeated arch-rivals Russia 5-0 in the final . The German team rose by tenth and last place in the top division for the first time since 2004 in Division I, while Switzerland took eighth place in the top division and thus prevented relegation. Austria was third in Group B of Division I.

The U18 World Cup was from 9 to 19 April in the Midwest of the United States held. Fargo in the state of North Dakota and the neighboring Moorhead in the state of Minnesota acted as venues . In addition to the Moorhead Sports Center (3,300 seats), the newly built Urban Plains Center (5,000 seats) served as a venue.
Ten national teams took part, playing in two groups of five teams each. The United States secured the world championship title, which clearly beat Russia 5-0 in the final. It was the fourth title for the Americans.

After the group games in the preliminary round, the two group winners qualified directly for the semi-finals. The runners-up and thirds in the group each played a qualifying game for participation in the semi-finals. The fourth and fifth of the group games contested - taking the result of the direct encounter from the preliminary round with them - the relegation round and determined two relegated to Division I.

The Israeli national team, relegated from Division II last year, decided not to take part, leaving only four teams in the tournament.
