Cameron "Cam" Matthew Fowler (born December 5, 1991 in Windsor , Ontario ) is an American - Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Anaheim Ducks in the National Hockey League since July 2010 and for this on the position of defender plays.
Career
Cam Fowler began his active career in 2006 with the Detroit Honeybaked in the Midwest Elite Hockey League , for which he was active for one year. In the OHL Priority Selection , he was selected in the first round of the following year in a total of 18th position by the Kitchener Rangers from the Ontario Hockey League , for which he however never appeared and subsequently decided to start his career with USA Hockey National Team Development Program to continue in the North American Hockey League . There he was immediately one of the regulars in his first season. After another year in the NAHL, the defensive player joined the Windsor Spitfires in the summer of 2009 . In the 2009/10 season he won the J. Ross Robertson Cup , the championship of the Ontario Hockey League, and the Memorial Cup with the Spitfires . In addition, Fowler was invited to the OHL All-Star Game due to his achievements and was elected to the Memorial Cup All-Star Team.
The defender was selected by the Anaheim Ducks in the first round of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft in a total of 12th position . On July 28, 2010, he signed a three-year contract with the Californians.
Fowler made his debut on October 8, 2010 in the National Hockey League and stood in the game against the Detroit Red Wings a total of 21.2 minutes on the ice. In the course of his rookie season, he convinced in his preferred role as an offensive defender and was the second best scorer among defenders within the NHL behind Kevin Shattenkirk with 40 points from 76 regular season games . However, Fowler's plus / minus balance of -25 was the worst of any newcomer. For the 2011 NHL All-Star Game , he was nominated as one of twelve rookies who took part in the Honda NHL SuperSkills .
In July 2017, Fowler signed a new contract in Anaheim that should earn him a total salary of $ 52 million over the next eight years starting with the 2018/19 season.
International
Fowler took part in the U18 Junior World Championship 2009 and the U20 Junior World Championship 2010 at the junior level with Team USA . He was in action in seven games in both competitions and won the gold medal twice with the team after victories against Russia and Canada. He also represented his home country at the World U-17 Hockey Challenge 2008 and won the silver medal. For the 2011 World Cup , Fowler was nominated for the first time in the squad of the US senior selection for a tournament. In the course of the competition he was used in all seven games of the USA, scored three points and failed with the team in the quarter-finals against the Czech Republic .
