Hampus Lindholm (born January 20, 1994 in Helsingborg ) is a Swedish ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Anaheim Ducks of the National Hockey League since July 2012 and has played for them since October 2013 in the position of defender . With the Swedish national team , he won the gold medal at the 2018 World Cup .

Career

Hampus Lindholm began his career as an ice hockey player in the youth department of Jonstorps IF , where he was active until 2010. The defender then moved to Rögle BK . He went through a rapid development and established himself in the second year in the first team that was active in the second Swedish division. He convinced with nine points in 30 games and was selected in the first round of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft as the sixth player by the Anaheim Ducks .

On July 13, 2012, Lindholm signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Anaheim Ducks. Since then he has been on the ice for their farm team , the Norfolk Admirals , in the American Hockey League . At the beginning of the 2013/14 season he was in the NHL squad of the Ducks for the first time and made his NHL debut on September 7, 2013 in the 3-2 win against the Winnipeg Jets .

After his contract expired in the summer of 2016, Lindholm was unable to agree on a contract extension with the Ducks for the time being, so that he was considered a restricted free agent without a contract beyond the start of the new 2016/17 season . It wasn't until late October 2016 that he signed a new six-year contract in Anaheim, which is expected to earn him an average annual salary of $ 5.25 million.

International

For Sweden , Lindholm took part in the U18 Junior World Championship in 2012 and won the silver medal with the team. He was part of the men's squad for the first time at the 2016 World Cup of Hockey . He played his first international game as part of the preparatory games for the tournament. In the main competition, he was the only field player in the squad without playing minutes. He then took part in the 2018 World Cup with the Tre Kronor and won the gold medal there with the team.
