Danton Heinen (born July 5, 1995 in Langley , British Columbia ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has played for the Anaheim Ducks in the National Hockey League since February 2020 on the position of the center .

Career

Until shortly before his 19th birthday in 2014, Heinen played exclusively in his home province of British Columbia , most recently for the Merritt Centennials and Surrey Eagles in the British Columbia Hockey League . There he was named Rookie of the Year in the 2013/14 season . He was then selected in the fourth round of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft in 116th place by the Boston Bruins from the National Hockey League . The striker was drawn to the University of Denver for the next two years, however , where he worked for the university's ice hockey program in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference , a division in the game operations of the National Collegiate Athletic Association . There, too, in his first year he received the award for best newcomer to the league.

In April 2016, the Bruins finally took their draft election under contract and at the end of the 2015/16 season in the American Hockey League with the Providence Bruins a. For the 2016/17 season , Heinen earned a place in the Boston Bruins' NHL squad and made his debut there on October 13th. Subsequently, however, he also spent this year mainly in Providence, before he was mainly used in the NHL for the first time in the 2017/18 season and placed fifth on the internal scorer list with 47 points.

After four years in the organization of the Bruins, Heinen was handed over to the Anaheim Ducks for the trade deadline in February 2020 , which in return sent Nick Ritchie to Boston.
