Career
Nick Ritchie was born in Orangeville, a city where lacrosse is very important. Ritchie began playing lacrosse as a young child before he also devoted himself to ice hockey. He showed exceptional talent in both of Canada's national sports, so he was invited to a selection event for the lacrosse U19 national team. Ritchie, however, opted for ice hockey in the summer of 2011 by joining the Peterborough Petes in the Ontario Hockey League , who selected him second in the OHL Priority Selection . In his first year in one of Canada's three top junior leagues, Ritchie scored 39 points in 62 games and was elected to the OHL First All-Rookie Team after the season . With the Canada Ontario team , Ritchie then took part in the World U-17 Hockey Challenge 2012 , where he won the bronze medal with the team. He also won the gold medal at the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament 2012 .
The first two months of the next season he was out due to a shoulder injury. In April 2013 he traveled to Sochi with the U18 national team and also won the gold medal at the Junior World Championships there . In the 2013/14 season he led the Peterborough Petes as assistant captain and increased his statistics to 74 scorer points in 61 games. With these services, several scouts were aware of him, he so at the upcoming 2014 NHL Entry Draft by the Central Scouting Services in seventh place of the most promising field players in North America will be listed. His strong physique is particularly emphasized at 1.90 m and 107 kg. In the actual draft, the Anaheim Ducks then selected him in 10th position and signed him in September 2014.
In 2015 he took part in the World Cup in his own country with the U20 national team and won the gold medal there with the team. A few days after the World Cup, the Peterborough Petes and Connor Boland gave him to Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds and received in return Kyle Jenkins and four voting rights in the OHL Priority Selection.
In the summer of 2015 Ritchie switched to the Anaheim Ducks organization and was subsequently used in roughly equal parts in the National Hockey League and American Hockey League , with the farm team , the San Diego Gulls . At the beginning of the 2016/17 season, the attacker established himself in the NHL lineup of the Ducks. After the 2017/18 season, his entry contract in Anaheim expired on July 1, 2018, so that he has been a restricted free agent since then . Until the beginning of the following season 2018/19, the players and team were unable to agree on a new contract, before Ritchie finally signed a new three-year contract in mid-October, which should bring him an average annual salary of approximately 1.5 million US dollars.
After more than four years in Anaheim, Ritchie was handed over to the Boston Bruins for the trade deadline in February 2020 , who in return transferred Danton Heinen to the Ducks.
