Connor Clifton (born April 28, 1995 in Long Branch , New Jersey ) is an American ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League since May 2018 and for their farm team , Providence, since October 2017 Bruins , plays in the American Hockey League in the position of defender . His older brother Tim is also a professional ice hockey player.

Career

Clifton initially spent his junior years between 2009 and 2011 with the New Jersey Hitmen in the Empire Junior Hockey League and Eastern Junior Hockey League . For the 2011/12 season, the defender was accepted into the National Team Development Program of the US Ice Hockey Association USA Hockey , where he spent another two seasons. He then began his studies at Quinnipiac University . There Clifton played the following four seasons parallel to his studies for the hockey team of the university in the ECAC Hockey , a division of the National Collegiate Athletic Association . Even before his engagement there, he was selected in the fifth round in the fifth round in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft by the Phoenix Coyotes from the National Hockey League (NHL).

After the Coyotes refrained from signing after completing his studies in spring 2017, the defensive player signed a contract with the Providence Bruins of the American Hockey League (AHL) in August 2017 . Clifton knew how to convince in the AHL and received after the end of the season an NHL entry contract with a term of two years with Providence's NHL cooperation partner, the Boston Bruins . Initially, he remained in the AHL in the 2018/19 season and only played his first NHL games for Boston at the end of the year. From mid-March 2019 he finally established himself in the Boston Bruins squad.

International

Clifton played for his home country at the U18 World Junior Championships in 2013 in the Russian Olympic city of Sochi . He was used in all seven tournament games and won the silver medal with the team. The defender scored one goal during the tournament.
