Bradley Kevin "Brad" Marchand (born May 11, 1988 in Halifax , Nova Scotia ) is a Canadian ice hockey player . The left winger has been under contract with the Boston Bruins in the National Hockey League since 2008 , with whom he won the Stanley Cup in 2011 . He also won gold medals with the Canadian national team at the 2016 World Cup and the 2016 World Cup of Hockey . Marchand is considered an outstanding offensive player, but in his role as a classic plague regularly causes controversy and has already received numerous fines and bans from the NHL.
Career
Brad Marchand began his career as a hockey player in the Canadian junior league Ligue de hockey junior majeur du Québec , in which he was active from 2004 to 2008 for the Moncton Wildcats , Foreurs de Val-d'Or and Halifax Mooseheads . During this period, the winger was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2006 in the third round as a total of 71 players by the Boston Bruins .
After being in the 2008-09 season for the first time for Boston's farm team , the Providence Bruins , in the American Hockey League had played and had it recorded 74 points in 95 games, the left gunner was in the 2009/10 season, his debut in the National Hockey League for the Bruins. At the same time, however, the Canadian continues to play for Providence in the AHL.
In the 2010/11 season , he finally made the leap to the Boston Bruins team. Marchand won the Stanley Cup with the team in his rookie season . In the decisive seventh game of the final series for the Stanley Cup, he scored two goals and an assist against the Vancouver Canucks .
In September 2016, Marchand signed a new contract with the Bruins, which should bring him an average of 6.125 million US dollars per season over the next eight years starting with the 2017/18 season. In the subsequent 2016/17 season, the attacker scored 85 points in 80 games for the first time to an average of over 1.0 and was consequently elected to the NHL First All-Star Team .
International
For Canada , Marchand took part in the U20 World Junior Championships in 2007 and 2008 . In both competitions he won the world title with his country. He also played in the 2007 Super Series .
At the 2016 World Cup , Marchand made his debut in the senior national team of his home country and won the gold medal with the team. The attacker achieved the same when he represented Canada a little later at the World Cup of Hockey 2016 .
