The 2006 Memorial Cup was the 88th edition of the tournament of the same name . Participating teams were the champions of their respective leagues, the Peterborough Petes ( Ontario Hockey League ) and the Vancouver Giants ( Western Hockey League ). The Moncton Wildcats were champions of the Québec Major Junior Hockey League and qualified as hosts . As a fourth team, the Québec Remparts were invited, which were subject to the Moncton Wildcats in the QMJHL final. The tournament was held May 19-28 at Moncton Coliseum in Moncton , New Brunswick . The tournament was televised nationwide on Rogers Sportsnet in Canada .

The Québec Remparts won their second Memorial Cup after 1970 by beating the Moncton Wildcats in the final . It was the first final game ever played between two teams from the Québec Major Junior Hockey League.
