Gilbert Jean Marco Brulé (born January 1, 1987 in Edmonton , Alberta ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with Kunlun Red Star in the Continental Hockey League since May 2019 .
Career
Gilbert Brulé began his career as a hockey player with the Quesnel Millionaires, for whom he played in the British Columbia Hockey League in the 2002/03 season. Then the attacker was under contract with the Vancouver Giants from the Western Hockey League for three years . During this time he was selected during the NHL Entry Draft 2005 in the first round as the sixth player of the Columbus Blue Jackets . Already during his last season in Vancouver Brulé made his debut in the National Hockey League for Columbus, but came in the 2005/06 season only to seven appearances in the NHL due to several serious injuries.
On July 1, 2008, Brulé was given to Edmonton Oilers in exchange for Raffi Torres . After the Canadian began the season there in the NHL squad, he was sent to their farm team , the Springfield Falcons , in the American Hockey League . In the 2009/10 season Brulé secured a regular place in the NHL roster of the Edmonton Oilers when he was used in 65 games and scored 37 points.
After Brulé was only active for the AHL farm team of the Edmonton Oilers, the Oklahoma City Barons , in the 2011/12 season , the Phoenix Coyotes selected the offensive player on the waiver list in January 2012. In August 2012, Brulé signed a contract for the 2012/13 season with the ZSC Lions in the Swiss National League A , which he dissolved in October 2012 for private reasons and by mutual consent.
He was then unemployed before Brulé took part in the Coyotes training camp in late summer 2013. He then received a trial contract with the Portland Pirates, before signing a two-way contract with the Coyotes in late November 2013 until the end of the season. Brulé completed three games for the NHL franchise, after which he was sent back to the farm team by the Coyotes. However, Brulé refused to play for the Pirates again and temporarily ended his career in early January 2014.
In May 2014, Brulé signed a one-year contract with the KHL club Awtomobilist Yekaterinburg . For Awtomobilist he scored 10 goals and 5 assists in 44 KHL games before he was signed by KHL Medveščak Zagreb in July 2015 . In October 2016, his current contract in Zagreb was terminated and Brulé moved to Neftechimik Nizhnekamsk .
Before the 2017/18 season, Brulé was signed by HK Tractor Chelyabinsk , but handed over to Kunlun Red Star in early September 2017 in exchange for Richard Gynge . In September 2018 he completed a try-out with the Calgary Flames , but received no contract in the NHL and therefore returned to the KHL, this time to HK Sibir Novosibirsk .
International
With the Canadian national team , Brulé won the U-18 Junior World Cup in 2004 . In the same year he reached the silver medal in the World U-17 Hockey Challenge with his country . The attacker made his debut for the senior national team at the 2018 Winter Olympics , where he won the bronze medal with the team that competed without NHL players.
