history
In the 2001/02 season, the team started playing, but the Giants' first season was extremely unsuccessful, with 49 defeats facing only 13 wins and six draws. In 2003, however, the team from Vancouver reached the play-offs for the first time, but then failed in the first round at the Kelowna Rockets . In 2004 the play-offs were reached again after defeating the Kamloops Blazers in the first round, but lost in the second round to the Everett Silvertips .
Despite the moderate success in the following season, the Giants quickly developed into an extremely popular team in the region, which sometimes attracted over 16,000 fans to the home stadium. In the 2005/06 season the Giants played the best preliminary round in their club history, in the playoffs they reached the final of the President's Cup , the championship of the WHL, after victories over the Prince George Cougars , the Portland Winter Hawks and the Everett Silvertips against the Moose Jaw Warriors was won. In addition, striker Gilbert Brulé was voted Most Valuable Player of the play-offs.
In the final series for the Memorial Cup 2006 , the championship of the umbrella organization CHL , which is played annually between the champions of the three Canadian top junior leagues WHL, OHL and QMJHL , the Giants reached the semi-finals, but then lost to the Moose Jaw Warriors.
Although the Vancouver Giants failed in the 2007 WHL final at the Medicine Hat Tigers , they took part as host in the 2007 Memorial Cup , which they finally won after a 3-1 win over the Tigers.
