Cody Franson (born August 8, 1987 in Sicamous , British Columbia ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who was last until May 2020 at HK Awangard Omsk from the Continental Hockey League (KHL) under contract and played there in the position of defender .
Career
Cody Franson began his career as a hockey player with the Vancouver Giants , for which he was active in the Canadian Junior Western Hockey League from 2002 to 2007 . With his team, the defender first won the President's Cup as WHL champion in 2006 , before he prevailed a year later with the Giants in the final tournament for the Memorial Cup , the championship of the Canadian Hockey League . During his time on the British Columbia team , the right- shooter was selected in the third round of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft as the 79th player of the Nashville Predators . First, however, he continued to play for Vancouver in the WHL, and from 2007 to 2009 for the Milwaukee Admirals , Nashville's farm team from the American Hockey League , before making his debut in the National Hockey League for the Predators in the 2009/10 season .
On July 3, 2011, Franson was transferred to the Toronto Maple Leafs in a barter with Matthew Lombardi in exchange for Brett Lebda and Robert Slaney . The transfer also included a four-round suffrage in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft , which was dependent on the number of games Lombardis played.
In February 2015, the Maple Leafs and Mike Santorelli handed him over to the Nashville Predators and received in return Olli Jokinen , Brendan Leipsic and a first-round vote for the 2015 NHL Entry Draft . So Franson returned to the team that had originally drafted him and in whose organization he had already spent four years. There he only ended the 2014/15 season and already moved to the Buffalo Sabers in September 2015 , where he signed a two-year contract. After working there for two years as a regular in the defense, his contract was not extended. The free agent was then looking for a club in the summer of 2017, before he received a trial contract from the Chicago Blackhawks in September . This was converted into an annual contract after the preparation for the season and then not renewed in summer 2018.
In September 2018 Franson moved to HK Awangard Omsk in the Continental Hockey League (KHL), where he was active for two seasons until May 2020.

For Canada , Franson took part in the U20 World Junior Championship in 2007 , where he was Junior World Champion with his country.
