The 2003/04 WHL season was the 38th season of the Western Hockey League . The play-offs started on March 18, 2004 and ended with the fourth President's Cup win by the Medicine Hat Tigers on May 5, 2004, who defeated the Everett Silvertips in the WHL final .

Team changes

The Everett Silvertips started the season as the 20th WHL franchise to start playing. The team was placed in the US Division , which now comprised five teams. The Silvertips played a successful first season and, in addition to the division title, also won the Conference Championship after defeating last year's champions Kelowna Rockets in the Western Conference finals. The Everett Silvertips were already 3-1 games behind in the best-of-seven series before they could win the following three games in overtime . This marked the first time a new franchise won a play-off series against the best regular season team. In addition, never before has an expansion team won a WHL conference title. The WHL final lost the Silvertips against the Medicine Hat Tigers with 0: 4 games.
