Mark Ardelan (born March 16, 1983 in Regina , Saskatchewan ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player who played for the Iserlohn Roosters in the German Ice Hockey League between 2008 and 2013 .
Career
Ardelan began playing ice hockey at the age of five and began his career in 1999 at the age of 16 with the Brandon Wheat Kings in the Canadian Junior League WHL . After two years he moved to the Vancouver Giants , where he was the defender with the highest points . The 2003/04 season spent Ardelan with the Prince Albert Raiders , where he could prove his offensive potential and was also the team's second-best scorer. Although Ardelan was among the best defensive players in the WHL for five years, he was not considered by any team from the National Hockey League in the NHL Entry Draft . The Canadian received an invitation to the training camp of the San Jose Sharks at the end of his junior years in 2004 , but could not prevail there.
Ardelan's first professional team were the South Carolina Stingrays from the ECHL , where he immediately became the top defender in the league as a rookie and also played his first game in the American Hockey League with cooperation partner Portland Pirates . For the 2005/06 season , the left shooter made the final leap into the AHL and joined the Manchester Monarchs , which he left after a year in the direction of Iowa Stars . The 2007/08 season was the most successful season for Ardelan until then, as he was able to qualify with the Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Penguins as the first in the East Division for the play-offs of the Eastern Conference and finally in the final series around the Calder Cup moved in. Here, however, the team lost to the Chicago Wolves .
For the 2008/09 season Ardelan moved to Europe , where he first went on the ice for Rauman Lukko in the Finnish SM-liiga . For problems due to the short preparation time for the new season, the Canadian Finland but left on 19 November 2008 and was two days later by the Iserlohn Roosters of the German Ice Hockey League committed to following the departure of Brendan Buckley looking for were a defense attorney. In the Sauerland , Ardelan signed an annual contract and met his former teammate Marty Wilford , with whom he had played in the AHL from 2005 to 2007. After his commitment, the Canadian was able to set accents on the offensive in particular and extended his contract for another year after the season. In the 2009/10 season he formed the Iserlohn's first defender pair with Wilford. In addition, both were the Roosters' strongest offensive defenders. They were also able to convince in their defensive work, with only four teams conceding fewer goals in the first half of the season. At the end of the season it was not enough for the play-off qualification because the team's performance was no longer sufficient, especially from January. After the season, Ardelan extended his contract with striker Jeff Giuliano for two years.
